Breaking the Cycle: Understanding and Preventing Childhood Violence

On Sept. 3, the Baker Institute Center for Health Policy will host a discussion on the implications of exposure to violence in childhood, including the increased rates of mental and physical health disorders. The main speaker will be Katelyn Jetelina, Ph.D., an epidemiologist studying childhood violence, who was named to the TIME100 Most Influential People in Health in 2024 for her work translating complex medical science into accessible public data. Along with other health experts, the discussion will focus on the policies and challenges involved in combating misinformation and advocating effectively for children’s safety.

This event is sponsored by the Texas Children’s Hospital, the Violence and Injury Prevention Research Center, the McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, and Baylor College of Medicine. It is free and open to the public.
