📢 Using Family-Based Research Designs to Understand the Impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences

Please join Eric Connolly, PhD, for an insightful discussion on how using family-based research designs can improve our understanding of the connection between adverse childhood experiences, behavior, and health.

Dr. Connolly's research focuses on risk and protective factors for victimization and violence across the life course. He uses longitudinal and quasi-experimental research designs to assess how early life adversities are related to developmental patterns of antisocial behavior and poor health.

📢 Congratulations, Dr. Guillot-Wright!

Shannon Guillot-Wright, PhD, Associate Professor in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences and VIPR Director of Health Policy, was recently awarded $400,000 by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB). This funding will support an expansion of the innovative and impactful Docside Clinic: Connecting Docs to Docks initiative by improving access to clinical and social services for underserved commercial fishermen and waterfront workers in Port Arthur, Texas.

📢 Seeking Community Partnerships for Program Evaluation

The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston - School of Public Health faculty are seeking practical learning experiences for our graduate students in the Program Evaluation course. A goal of this course is for students to learn program evaluation methods and skills.

The student will complete a theory-informed program evaluation plan, and may identify new approaches or models to achieve program goals/objectives.

Looking for:

• agencies/organizations in the community to plan an evaluation of a program

• programs that do not currently have any solid evaluation plans attached to them

• available for some interview time in the beginning of class to help the student complete information about the program

📢 Violence and Injury Prevention Certificate

UTHealth Houston School of Public Health and VIPR launches the new Violence and Injury Prevention Certificate this fall! The certificate is available for degree-seeking students. It will become available to non-degree-seeking students for the Spring 2026 semester. Deadline for Spring enrollment is Nov 1 through SOPHAS Express. More information about the graduate certificate can be found HERE.
